Darth Vader sleeps beside me

Am lying in bed next to my poorly little girl ( our bed not hers). Listening to her breathing. She's not asleep. Not yet anyway. I was downstairs trying to sort out Xmas online shopping when I heard her crying. Came up, comforted her, tried to get medicine down her to no avail. She's now considerably calmer. Upon instruction I switched off the light (hall light is on and door is open so I can see her little face. See pic. She just went from asleep to waking up from coughing. Cried. Looked at me and I cooed in cooey voice that its ok, and she drifted off again. This happens every few minutes. Poor little mite. Doctor tomorrow for sure. I have to remember to book the appointment at 8am on the dot. Have a feeling staying home another day will go down like a lead balloon. And I may have to take it as holiday rather than working from home. But hey ho. Rather not be the kind of mother that leaves her kids with someone else when they REALLY need to be at home with me. Don't get me wrong a bit of the snuffles and they still go to nursery/childminder. But she's not been right all weekend. Just want to wrap her up in a blanket and hold her to my breast!!! Hehe. No, I'm not going to be one of those mums breast feeding her 2 year old (although if that's your boat I won't knock you for it - not out loud anyway). But when they are ill it really makes them need you so much more than their normal healthy independent little selves.

Listening to her breathing is making me sleepy.

And then she wakes up again and is inconsolable again for 3 minutes, then straight back to sleep.

Hubby has been told to sleep in spare room. Have a feeling tonight is going to be long night and if I'm honest I don't really fancy being squashed in the corner again tonight. Boy was up last night and climbed in with us and I ended up sleeping half off the bed.

The little one's breathing is akin to to Darth Vader at the moment.

Maybe she's been playing too much Angry Birds Star Wars on the iPad and has got into.... character acting. What's it called when you get so into the role you go slightly mental. Like that old guy in Apocalypse now.

Hope she doesn't have a chest infection. Or whooping cough. Not good.

Poorly girl

Template irritation

Am fed up. And grumpy.

Girl is poorly and that's not good. Worried about her. She's in bed now and this blog template has been bugging me. I'm one of these people who has to have something perfect or they won't bother.

I need to find the perfect blogger template.

I've seen a few that I liked. I do like the notepad one I have at the moment but the font is too small and I don't like not to be able to amend that stuff.

My vision of my blog template.....

Hmmmmm here we go.

Well, I want it to say something about me and colours I like are pinks and pastels. Swirls or spots or stripes are also good. I love the idea of the notebook thing but I don't like really small font and I'd rather the font was like it was in my original blog - which is like handwriting.

I'm completely at a loss as to what to do. I know the most important thing is content right? But I don't feel like I can get anywhere further until I have a template I'm happy with. Bloody perfectionist genes!!!

My husband

I thought I would start off a little blog series to introduce my family. I thought I had better start with the long-suffering husband. The man who said "I do" at the alter (I think he actually meant "I will" - "I will have lots of sex with you until I die" - I know my husband and the way his brain works! haha. The man who puts up with my frequent freak outs and my shoppaholicism (made that word up) and the man that while perhaps seemingly a bit tight with money, will occasionally splash out and get me something I have hankered after for a long time (recently an iMac - oh and a new car - although technically I'm paying for the car myself). Anyway, here are some facts about my dear husband. Oh and a piccie.

Me and hubby on our wedding day (no I don't look like that anymore)

  • He loves to cook
  • He has gone from being a lazy worker in a shittyish (well paid but dull) job where he surfed the net all day (more or less) to being a bit of a workaholic (boo) but being really good at his new job and I reckon progressing up the ladder. Am proud of him
  • He does pretty much all the DIY in the house. I am useless
  • He has forgiven me more times than I care to remember.
  • He loves QI
  • He brews beer in our garage
  • He likes to windsurf (in Turkey usually - there just isn't the time here - plus its cold!!!)
  • He plays guitar (although also not much time for that these days)
  • He has big ideas and dreams (but I think he'll achieve them)
  • Although he works in IT he's rubbish with gadgets - go figure (is that too american a saying for a Brit to say?)
  • He chased me for 3 months before finally giving up - at which point I missed the attention (and him) and decided to go out with him
  • He is a fab dad
  • I think that will do for now. I'm hoping he doesn't read this as it will make his head grow to the size of a pumpkin!
This pumpkin in fact:

Hubby and son (actual name Joshua - might as well as I've "come out" now)

I have come out

After weeks of worrying about keeping this blog secret from people who know me, I decided to sod it. And told my close friends on Facebook about the blog (and the facebook page for the blog). Tired of worrying about what people will think about my ramblings. If people who don't know me at all enjoy reading it then why shouldn't my friends know about it, maybe even read it if they want. Why am I so worried about being judged. Guess I've had my fingers burnt in the past.

Anyway, Am having another coffee watching another House while dog snores on sofa next to me.

Bliss - me time (or not)

Little girl went to bed and fell asleep within 2 seconds of head hitting pillow.

Husband took boy out to shops after much furore (as that the right word)....

Dammit. Spoke too soon. Girlie just woke up crying. She really isn't very well. Nasty cough and obviously very under weather. Tucked her up again (in boys end of bed in his - bigger - duvet*) and left door open so she can get through (she can't manage opening it by herself yet). Hope she will stay asleep. She needs it (and I do as selfishly I need a bit of me/adult TV time - cough, I mean putting washing on and doing housework-time).

* really need to get girl child her own pink (peppa pig probably) big girl duvet.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, boy child made (as per bloody usual) a huge fuss about getting out of PJs ("want to go in jimjams mummy"), getting into new clothes, didn't want to wear jumper I chose ("want one with zip mummy") blah blah blah - oh and then had the plastic yellow gas key in his mouth, blowing it like a whistle, while jumping around like an adolescent kangaroo which I was trying to get him dressed. He's 4 now. Why he can't dress himself I don't know. Probably cos he's a little git. Anyway, he spat the bloody thing (wasn't actually bloody - just yellow and plastic) then as I'm trying to get his pants on he spits it out in my face - hits my eye. Thankfully I managed to close it so no damage but it did hurt! This made me lose it and shout at him and shout for hubby to come down and bloody help! My fuse is short when I see an escape from child-dom near but due to fussing and messing about, that escape just starts to look further and further away and eats into the time other child is likely to sleep for. Anyway, must enjoy it while it lasts.

Will drink my tea and watch some house before I run around for a bit doing some housework so hubby doesn't think I've sat on my bum watching TV the whole time he's been out!

Saturday morning

This bloody google thing really getting on my wick. a) why am I so desperate to have a Google + account that does not link back to my real name - I mean what do I have to hide? Nothing. Well, not much anyway. But now its annoying me that I have two blogger profiles and if I am logged in as MIAH (Mum in a hurry), and then try to click into my Gmail, it will go to my (empty) google mail account for MIAH. Rather than my ACTUAL gmail account that I ACTUALLY use.

I have left the kids downstairs playing with their iThings (iPad for son and daddy's iPhone for daughter) and watching Nick Jnr. Was hubby's turn to have a lie in this morning so am feeling tired and grumpy. Its nearly 10.30am and definitely time for him to get up. Before we started taking the kids to their rugbytots classes on Sunday mornings we used to get one lie in each a weekend which was much better. Now we have to take it in turns to lie in on a Saturday and then one of us has a nap or a bit of chillout time later in the afternoon. Maybe we're selfish. A lot of people I know (especially those who work full time - like I do now) seem to spend every weekend chocka packed with fun (tiring), interesting (but not really) activities for the kids. Do I sound like a terrible parent? lol. But who has the energy for that? I certainly don't. We do obviously do fun things with our kids. Occassionally take them on fun days out (weather permitting), we do dog walks and trips to park etc. But I think its also quite important for your (my) kids to appreciate that sometimes you just want to stay in and have a cozy day. OK those so called cozy days often end up with me screaming at them because they go a bit stir crazy. Most weekends, my hubby takes either both or just my son out (to DIY shop or brewing shop or maybe to the pub for some cheesy chips) so I can have a bit of quiet time on my own (if former) and a bit of mummy daughter time if the latter. I love both to be honest. Both kids, on their own, are absolutely lovely. Of course they can be very cute together too but mostly they just wind eachother up a bit and I end up shouting at one of them or both of them. But on their own they are SOOOO much easier. I generally find my little girl easier (sorry son. Love you equally but you are a bit of a pain in the bum sometimes) as she is quite self contained. Plus she doesn't mind me putting a bit of grown up TV on which gives me a bit of a break too (nothing gorey or violent obviously).

I think I'm going to go make myself a coffee (proper latte - as have a supaduper coffee machine) and prod hubby one more time before I go downstairs.

Coffee made, hubby shouted at, apple cut up for children,

AAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

OK I feel a bit better after that. Was alright this morning (mentally). Enjoyed sitting on sofa watching TV with kiddies. Did a bit of putting stuff in the dishwasher etc. But then all the being climbed on and kids both demanding biscuits (not one mummy two - and yes I know biscuits first thing in morning make me bad mummy)/tea (too cold mummy warm it up)/banana (urgh mummy don't like brown bits, cut them off - no you don't it WRONG!) etc etc every 3 minutes was just doing my head in. I came up here (to my office and my beloved iMac) to have a bit of a break but calendar thing pinged up and told me that appointment with bank (to talk to them about possibility of lending us tonnes of money) was 5 minutes ago!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT!!!! I thought it was sunday. Don't ask me why I thought a bank would have made an appointment to meet us on a Sunday when Banks aren't even open on Sundays. I had in my head that it would be okay cos we'd have been at Rugby tots with the kids in the morning and could then go straight to bank (I could take them to cafe if they were too unruly at bank). Again, I KNOW that Rugby is on Sundays not saturdays so no idea why I got into my head bank appt was then. So cue running around putting contact lenses in and then realising the chances of making it to the bank even in the space of the next hour was unlikely. Kids and me were still in our jarmas. So I shouted at hubby for a bit just to make myself feel better. Then kind of apologised later cos it wasn't really his fault. Tried to ring bank but number on Google was out of date so scribbled down new number from phone message. Rang new number for bank service. Why they can't just put a branch number. Are people really going to be stupid enough to ring the bank directly about stuff other than urgent stuff that needs communicating directly to your branch (ie I am late for my appointment can we reschedule for later). Eventually got through to some uppetty type bloke on end of phone. Told him I needed to speak to my branch. He said they don't take incoming calls. Yeah right. You mean YOU don't give out the number is what you ACTUALLY mean. Twats. Anyway, told him what happened (left out bit about rugby and thinking it was on Sunday) and asked if he could contact them or have them ring me. He put me on hold for a bit. Then the phone started ringing then phone went dead and got BT message telling me I'd been cut off. Great. F*** it. We'll go to other bank unless this bank ring us back.

Now feel very tired and grumpy. OK, MORE tired and grumpy. I now have a bit of time "off" so am typing this up and then going to have a nice hot bath.

Girl child is seeming a little bit better. She was very hot this morning but gave her calpol. First time she's taken it voluntarily actually. When she was a baby we had to force it down her throat with a pipette or if she was well enough to have milk we put it in a bit of milk. Yummy. Calpol strawberry milkshake. Guess she's seen her big brother take his medicine. In fact, she wanted more. Kept asking for it too. In the end, an hour later I gave her another little half spoon (says that's the max she can have - one 5ml spoon and the mini 2.5ml spoon every 4 hours). No more now until 1pm as that was at 9am. Assuming she needs it which she may not. She is a pretty sturdy little lady. We call her Bulldozer. She's such a little mini thug. I mean she's very lovely and cute but very sturdy and heavy (both kids were heavy - boy was 9lb 1.5oz at birth. She was 8lb 13.5).

Oh this is nice. Quiet office. No kids pulling on me. No husband annoying me. Or dogs. I could get used to this. Better go get myself another coffee and start running bath.

Went down to make coffee and got pulled into all sorts of child-related activities. Grumble grumble. Now bath running and latte in hand. Well, not really as I couldn't type if I didn't have both hands available but its sat on the desk next to me.

I think I'll go now as this post is starting to sound rather like drivell.
